Currently writing this after the conclusion to our first ever freshmen movie night. There were many doubts and worries going into it and we had unique problems since this is an online high school. We also had the daunting task of showing a 2 hrs 50 min long movie (Interstellar). Many people advised me to use other unofficial means (i.e. skype) to host the event, but I really wanted the event to be official and easily accessible. (Since everyone is familiar with Adobe Connect)
However, no one in the school had ever attempted to host a Movie Night within Adobe Connect by means of screen sharing and we had no idea if it would work until the actual show time. In preparation for the worst case scenario, we ran through multiple different backup plans, which turned out to be unnecessary because we pulled it off! There was little to no lag and absolutely no buffering throughout the entire 3 hr duration. I am still amazed at how well it worked out. Adobe Connect has its problems that are often times very frustrating, but it worked absolutely beautifully tonight. (Dear AC, I promise never to complain or be annoyed with you ever again….maybe)
You may have noticed that I have been using “we” throughout this post because this would not have been possible without the help of teachers and faculty, who helped with many logistical problems and stayed to cover the 3 hours of the movie, and my friends, who helped and advised through everything. Lastly, whether you only stayed for a while or sat through the entire movie, thank you for being a part of it! I’m very happy with how smoothly everything went and I can’t wait to organize another Movie Night in the future.
